Let Street Toyota Help You Get Your Vehicle Ready for Summer
While it may feel like we were just dodging snowflakes a few weeks ago and blasting the air conditioning this week, summer will officially be here in less than a month. Many people have a spring/summer to do list to get their yard, garden and even their closet ready for summer weather. There is one more thing you need to get ready for the warm temperatures that most people do not think about and that is your car, truck or SUV. The following are some things you can do to make sure that your summer enjoyment will not be sidelined by expensive auto repair:
Change Your Oil
While this may seem like an obvious thing, most people solely depend on their vehicle’s odometer to tell them when it is time for an oil change. A change in seasons should also be a consideration when scheduling oil changes as well. Extremes in temperature can breakdown oil just as much as excess mileage can. For those that live in areas that can have a wide range of temperature variations from season to season, it is important to not only take your vehicle in for a check-up and oil change when the odometer tells you to, but when the seasons do as well.
A Clean Vehicle is a Happy Vehicle. . .
When the weather gets warm, there is no excuse for not keeping at least the exterior of your car, truck or SUV clean. While you may not be able or want to wash it yourself, it only takes a few minutes to search for a local car wash on your smartphone or computer. If you are out driving around town, be on the lookout at the local high school or recreation center as car washes are a typical fundraiser held by educational or community groups. If you choose this option, you are not only making your vehicle happy, but donating to a worthy cause as well. Check with your local dealer to see if they offer wash or detailing services or they can recommend someone in the area.
Be Road Trip Ready
The arrival of warm weather in many states also means an increase in road construction. While you may have your trip planned out mile by mile, there is no way to predict traffic jams, a flat tire or a general vehicle breakdown. Whether you are just going to the local grocery store or planning a trip across the state, it is always a good idea to have an emergency kit on hand. You can put one together for less than $20, and if you ever need to use it, it becomes priceless. A well-stocked travel emergency kit should include a small, basic first aid kit, a change of clothes or blanket and enough bottled water and non-perishable food to provide for your maximum amount of passengers. For example, if you have a two-seater sports car, two bottles of water and a couple granola bars or a bag of jerky is sufficient. If you have a minivan that seats seven or more, make sure that you have a bottle of water for each person and enough non-perishable food to provide an adequate snack for everyone. If you travel with your furry companions, make sure you have enough water and at least one meal worth of food for them as well.
